Hunger shook his belly on the way back, and he tried not to doze off. He also tried not to imagine what was going on inside that ranger's head that made him tell that story. Did that just happen recently? Was he still dealing with the grief? Or was it just another war story? Either way, the guy as looking for something he couldn't give him at the moment.
Now it was time to figure out what the hell was going on. Why did he see this instead of anyone else? Maybe plenty of people experienced hallucinations similar to his and chose to ignore them. People are great at convincing themselves they never saw something. Maybe his predicament helped him out. If help was really the right term. The girls asked about his story and then waved him off almost as soon as he started, seeming to already know. Something in his psyche tuned into whatever energy was sitting around from whatever happened back when they were actually young. An unconscious cry for help that stuck with him more than anyone else in psychic shouting distance.
Tonight held the answers. A lot of them.
