Futura

The future

The future is less glamorous than television wants you to believe, but while commercial spaceflight is crawling along through the upper atmosphere, scientists and engineers are printing food. That's right, the replicators of Star Trek are closer than you think. Characterizing this development is kind of a stretch. Replicators created matter out of energy (at least I think that's how they worked. I kind of grew out of my inner Trekkie, but only kind of). These printers use food inks to construct, say a rocket ship nugget, or a small cake with a letter inside of it. Like I said, it doesn't sound glamorous, but it's a great start if you think about it.

We've got tablets now that can look up anything you need to know, anywhere (as long as you sprung for the 3G), and now there's Siri, the more than just voice control who can (usually) figure out what you want.

I guess my point is, we've come to expect a lot from the future. No one really notices these smaller things that harness completely new technologies or ways of thinking. Keep an eye out.
