Return to the origins of Japanese horror in this collection of short stories.

In the eponymous story, a little girl notices strange things happening to her reflection in the sliding glass door to her backyard out of the corner of her eye. At first she thinks nothing of it, but of course curiosity gets the best of her. Her reflection cautiously approaches as the glass looms closer. Hands reach out towards each other, parts of bodies not quite mirror images of each other. She finally touches the glass to make sure it's actually there, and is only allowed to enjoy its chill for an instant. The other girl grabs her wrist and pulls her through the glass as they both end up in heaps a couple feet away from the door. She is compelled to rise as her reflection gets to her feet. They perform a sort of marionette dance - the reflection, now in the real world, playing the puppeteer. It doesn't feel like she is being pulled in these directions as much as she has no choice but to do everything the other her does on the other side of the glass. Naturally the reflection, jealous of the fallen puppeteer for so long, has some disturbing fun with the situation.

Other stories tell of a photographer who sees into his subjects minds when developing their pictures, seaman on a fishing boat taken captive by sirens that turn out to be squid people, haunted Shinkansen bathrooms, and many more.
