Nostalgia

Normally I avoid listening to the radio whenever possible. The grumpy old man inside me despises the 40 song playlist strategy most of the stations seem to employ when making music suggestions. Unfortunately I have reached the age where other stations are starting to play the most popular songs from when I was starting to become aware of what good and bad music were. This evening is was Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life," which manages to deftly walk the line between shallow, catchy pop and actual quality music.

Right before this gem broadcast its way into my girlfriend's car I was reminiscing about the good old days in high school (using the term very loosely). It was a freewheeling time when my fours friends and I spent most of our time driving around just to waste gas and eat at a different fast food joint. Maybe someone would buy a CD or a T-shirt. This was probably a pretty standard high school experience, and I honestly can't say it's a time I would like to re-visit, but I there's one thing I definitely miss. I never had to worry about running out of money.

I mourn the days of having no fiscal responsibilities. Student loans and rent require slightly larger paychecks than fucking around money, and I can't help but wonder that if I didn't have to work, I could actually get something accomplished. If my stomach wasn't making unholy noises that are shaking my entire abdomen I would elaborate more, but I can't really be bothered to care anymore.
