"So you're me if I had decided to forgo the job I was handed and pursued a real career in photography."
"Yup."
"Isn't this kind of a hackneyed premise?"
"I wouldn't call it hackneyed, but that's just because the word stirs up some strange connotations in my brain."
"Mine too, but I guess that isn't really a surprise."
"Look at this as a chance for reflection."
"What could have been. What good will that do me?"
"You won't know until you ask me."
"Now why would I want to do that?"
"Ever since you took that job you've wondered if you made the right decision."
"That's not exactly a secret."
"Here's your chance to find out!"
"I don't really know if I want to."
"Here's your chance for vindication!"
"But if I was wrong..."
"Scary, isn't it?"
"Why do I need this? More importantly, how am I even talking to you? This crap only happens on TV. Movies won't even touch it."
"Don't be so cynical. It's a great device to help you gain some perspective on life."
"The only perspective I'm achieving is that I don't want to know what happened to me in some parallel universe of infinite possibilities."
"It's more like infinite parallel universes with infinite possibilities."
"Whatever. I know this has some sort of potential to be a cathartic experience, but I don't want it. I made my choices, and they've done alright for me so far. Anything I haven't accomplished is going to require a lot more than a couple years' work. I'm only twenty-four for god's sake. Everything isn't going to be done by now."
"Ahh, but who knows how long you've got?"
"If we keep this up you might find out."
