Basically they though up the whole idea while smoking pot. They thought it would bring everyone together by allowing them freedom of transportation. They thought these roads would help people strike off in new directions to explore their own humanity and make the world a better place. They wanted us to travel through the great wildernesses of the nation so we could seem them for ourselves and help save them for future generations. The open road was to be our great liberator.
