Two best friends spent their childhood building cities in their backyards with whatever they could scrounge from their surroundings. Branches, plywood scraps, steamer trunks, Christmas lights, everything was game. Wars, monsters, and natural disasters leveled their creations every chance they got, but their spirit couldn't be broken. Creative destruction allowed for all sorts of innovative ways to rebuild.
As they grew older, these cities became more permanent. Suburbs sprung up around the edges. Their parents were so proud, convinced the kids would grow up to be great architects or planners of real cities.
I'd like this to be a story about how these two visionaries battled against the establishment together to usher in a new era of urban planning and living through their childhood insights, but that's just not life. Real life watches your dreams turn to hobbies as old friends drift apart. We mostly see them in their late twenties trying to regain that feeling of purpose together after years of estrangement, but every meeting falls to disaster.
Sometimes real strength lies in knowing when to give up.
