8-bit physics

Extenuating circumstances kept me from doing this yesterday, and this morning, so here's the first of two this evening.

I came across a strange little fresco - an eight bit man, frozen mid-stride in a dash across the river. I paused to consider why the artist had left this guy forever striving for the other side. From what was he running away? He certainly had to be running from something. There was a look of disquiet in his blurry face. My gaze turned to some distraction lost to my memory, and when I turned back, he was gone.

Had I hallucinated? Was he an embodiment of the disquiet brewing within my own soul? Or, more unlikely, had I been lucky enough to catch a convergence of two universes and freeze the moment in time just so long as I stared at it?

I will never know, but I will also never forget.
